Title: Jesus the Perfect Gift
Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:1-3, 9-11
MATTHEW 2:1–3, 9–11
1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi [wise men] from the east came to Jerusalem
2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. . . .
9 After they had heard the king, [the wise men] went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
Each year at Christmas we see signs of the season. But amidst the world’s holiday celebration, we also see signs of Christmas: angels, manger scenes, and wise men worshipping the baby, Jesus.
I want to study the Jesus gift and show you why Jesus is the perfect Gift.
- He is the image of the invisible God.
COLOSSIANS 1:15
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
The Son reflects God’s own glory, and everything about him represents God exactly.
- Because He is our Savior
God knew we needed a Savior, Deliverer, Redeemer, Healer, and Friend. We needed someone who was fully God and fully man. Only Jesus could meet this need.
- The Gift of Jesus holds importance for all eternity.
Jesus is the Gift that keeps on giving. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave . . .”
and gave and gave and gave—thousands of years later, the Gift of Jesus is still giving!
Jesus is the perfect Gift! Even though we don’t deserve and could never earn this Gift, God freely gave Jesus to all who will receive Him. God’s love for us in Christ never fades, diminishes, or weakens. God’s love for us remains consistent and continually available.
