Last November 2-3, 2018, The Kid’s Church (TKC) conducted its very first Spirit Empowered Kids, an overnight Camp in church. This is the ministry’s initiative to teach the children about the Holy Spirit and even encounter His power.
“It will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.” -Joel 2:28
Indeed, the Holy Spirit doesn’t limit Himself to certain people or people of specific ages. He can touch anyone, even children.
A total of 36 children signed up for the event. These were children aged 7-10 years old and handpicked by their teachers based on their spiritual maturity potential. For most of them, it was their first overnight experience and they were extremely excited.
The event proper started at 3pm with Praise and Worship, followed by a game called Power Pull. After that, a puppet show that illustrated the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Children then listened to a short storytelling on Acts 2, the first outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Then a series of object lessons followed thereafter. The objects used were basically water and cup. First, we emphasized to the children how they need to cleanse their hearts first by renouncing all their sins and leading them to salvation prayer.
After which, they were then taught the purpose of being filled – and that was to witness for Christ. Then, we introduced to them the Baptism of the Holy Spirit – to which Speaking in Tongues as the most obvious manifestation. Lastly, Pastor Anelene encouraged the children to be filled with the Holy Spirit with the 4 basic steps namely, Open Heart, Open Mouth, Ask and Wait.
During the altar call, teachers took turn to pray for the children and praise God. He didn’t disappoint! A number of children were touched and the Holy Spirit manifested in them through crying, shaking, tongues and even visions. Some felt overwhelming joy and a sense of burden being lifted up. Surely, these kids will be spirit sensitive when it comes to doing the right thing.
The next day, the children woke up early for a morning praise and worship and were taught how to do devotion, followed by morning Zumba. At 8 am, they then break camp.
The event was an overall success. We look forward to conducting another Spirit Encounter next year. This time hoping for more participants. All glory to God!
